Then, hepatitis C derailed her career, forcing her to retire from singing in 1991. That's when Judd decided to learn everything she could about the disease.

To boost her immune system, she adopted a mind, body and spirit approach. By combining conventional medicine with integrative techniques – including acupuncture, meditation and other alternative practices – Judd made a stunning comeback, announcing that her liver condition was in remission in 1999.

She performed her final tour with Wynonna in 2010, and she filmed a reality show for Oprah Winfrey's OWN network in 2011.

Today, Judd travels the country speaking out on behalf of hepatitis C survivors, while raising awareness and educating others on liver condition. About 3.2 million people in the United States have chronic hepatitis C viral infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
