Everyone who's trying to eat healthfully to lose weight is going to slip sometime. Some people call it "cheating," but, really, it's normal.
It's not usually the "slip" that's the problem, says the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The problem is the way we react to slips when they happen. Do we let them derail us? Or do we simply get back to the health program and move on?
The truth is, no one slip can ruin your overall progress. Slips are part of the process of changing your eating habits.
If, however, you notice a series of slips, then take steps to refocus.
When this happens, the ADA suggests making a list of the series, which can serve as future clues that indicate you might be falling back into old habits. For example, your clues might include a weight gain of more than 3 pounds, more than one week without exercising, too tight clothes, or the return of an old habit that you worked hard to break.
Whenever you spot these clues, it's time to review your goals and start the next day back into your healthy routine.
