Expert Tips to Avoid Stress When You Have MS

Avoid stress with MS #1: Plan your day.
If you've got a big day planned for Wednesday, rest up on Tuesday.

Or if you're a mom and planning to take the kids [to an amusement park] on Saturday, then don't do much on Friday. Be prepared not to do much on Sunday either, because you're going to need to rest and regroup.

Avoid stress with MS #2: Schedule rest periods.
It's very important to build rest periods into [your day]. [They help make] energy last [so that you don't] crash and burn.

Waking up and going about your day without a plan, then finding out that you've been running errands for eight hours, isn't going to work. That might have been what you did 20 years ago, but now you have a condition, and you're older.

But life is unpredictable. If you can't rest, don't beat yourself up trying to de-stress. That can be stressful too. Do the best you can. If you can take your daily nap or stop for tea, great. But if you can't, it's fine – you'll make up for it later.
