OAB trigger #9: Too much or not enough water
It does help to be well hydrated, but "anything excessive will put pressure on the bladder to overwork," Dr. Kim says.
So how do you know when you're drinking enough?
"We have a built-in thirst mechanism that tells us when we're not drinking enough," Dr. Kim says.
If your fluid intake is inadequate, your urine will be dark yellow and strong smelling. If you're drinking too much, you'll find yourself rushing to the restroom to urinate.
Visit a urologist who specializes in overactive bladder issues "to see if medication will help and to rule out the possibility of something more serious, like a bladder tumor, a [bladder] stone or bladder infection," Dr. Kim says.
